Leprechaun (1993) is a scary movie that doesn't get enough attention

Leprechaun is a so-bad-it's-good horror classic. The narrative, acting, and special effects are ridiculous. All of it creates a pleasant and engaging picture. Jennifer Aniston is quite terrific in her cinematic debut as the leprechaun. Leprechaun is a fun campy horror film. This movie will make you laugh, not scream.

Legendary status has been granted to Warwick Davis's depiction of an enraged leprechaun. The film's leprechaun believes a human family has stolen his pot of riches. Armed with all his wits and power, he sets out to track them down. However, the family is still on the lookout for the gold in an effort to appease the leprechaun and prevent any more harm from coming to them. Due in large part to Davis's terrifying and memorable performance, Leprechaun is often regarded as one of the finest examples of the horror film genre.

The Leprechaun movie was supposed to be more of a straight horror movie, but Davis added some humor to his role.

Leprechaun movie plot:

In 1983, Dan O'Grady traveled to Ireland, the country of his origin, and while there, he abducted a leprechaun and stole the pot of gold that he was guarding. He then returned to his home in North Dakota. After O'Grady buried the wealth, he came to the conclusion that the evil leprechaun had followed him back to his house and murdered his wife. With the use of a clover with four leaves, O'Grady is able to control the leprechaun's skills and confine him inside a container. He had a stroke just in time to stop him from setting him on fire.

Ten years later, J. D. Redding leases the O'Grady farmhouse with daughter Tory. The farmhouse is being repainted by Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their dimwitted buddy Ozzie Jones. While examining the cellar, Ozzie misidentifies the leprechaun as a child. He frees the leprechaun by removing the old clover. Leprechaun tells Ozzie he's an Irish shoemaker who came to America for his money. After failing to convince others he saw a leprechaun, Ozzie spots a rainbow and follows it in search of a pot of gold. Alex follows Ozzie out of worry for him. A bag of 100 gold coins appears before Ozzie. Ozzie examines the riches and swallows a coin, thinking it would cure his brain. They conceal it in an ancient well.

The leprechaun on the farm deceives J. D. into falling into a trap by impersonating a cat and biting and injuring his hand while posing as a feline. After Tory and the others take him to the hospital, the leprechaun rides a tricycle. When Alex and Ozzie drive to a pawn shop to verify the gold's purity, the leprechaun kills the proprietor, Joe, for stealing his gold and polishes Joe's shoes before fleeing. On his way back to the farmhouse, the leprechaun builds himself a go-kart and is caught for speeding by a police officer. The leprechaun chases the police officer into the forest, where he finally murders the officer. The leprechaun returns to the farm and searches for his riches while sparkling each shoe he encounters. The group returns to the farmhouse after delivering J. D. to the hospital. Nathan is injured by a bear trap placed by a leprechaun as he checks the exterior of a plundered structure. The gang tackles the leprechaun with rocks and clubs in the open air.

As soon as they find a gun in the house, the leprechaun is ambushed and shot many times. They attempt to leave the property after it becomes clear that it won't work, but the leprechaun has already wrecked the engine of the vehicle. After crashing the car with the go-kart, the leprechaun causes the group to be in fear until Ozzie reveals to the leprechaun that he and Alex found the treasure chest. Tory is the one who descends into the well and retrieves the bag, which she subsequently presents to the leprechaun. They make their way to the hospital, certain that the worst is behind them. During the process of counting his fortune, the leprechaun learns that he is short one coin since Ozzie ate it. He threatens them since he is under the impression that they have tricked him, but Ozzie stops him by explaining that O'Grady had a stroke and was sent to a nursing home. The group is able to distract the leprechaun's attention when they throw dirty shoes at him. As a result, the leprechaun is compelled to go shine the shoes while Tory gets into her (blog post) vehicle and drives (blog post) away. Tory travels to the home in order to get information on how to kill the leprechaun.

At the nursing home, the leprechaun pretends to be O'Grady. The leprechaun follows Tory to an elevator and throws O'Grady's bloody body down the elevator shaft as Tory runs away. Before he dies, O'Grady tells her that the only way to kill the leprechaun is with a four-leaf clover, which grows in a big patch right outside the farm. Tory goes back to the farmhouse to look for a clover, but the leprechaun attacks her, and Nathan and Ozzie save her. The leprechaun gets seriously hurt while trying to get the last gold coin, which Ozzie admits he ate. Alex puts a four-leaf clover that Tory found on a wad of gum and fires it into the leprechaun's mouth. This melts the leprechaun before he can kill Ozzie. Even though the leprechaun's skeleton fell into the well, it gets out and says, "I want my gold." After Nathan pushes the leprechaun back into the well, he lights both objects on fire with gasoline. When the police show up, Tory is reunited with her father. She then marries Nathan and they have a child. While the police search the wreckage of the well, the leprechaun says he won't stop until he finds all of his money.

Leprechaun movie trivia

After the producers insisted on making the movie scarier so it would appeal to older audiences, several scenes had to be reshot.

Warwick Davis was cast in Willow by George Lucas. Why is less known. Davis was under contract to Lucas and needed authorization to appear in the movie. He was awarded a "special thanks" credit as a consequence. This fact makes the film more interesting to horror aficionados. This shows Lucas' effect on pop culture.

Originally, the leprechaun was meant to flee back to Ireland. But there was one problem: the Irish actor who was portraying the leprechaun, Warwick Davis, did not have a work visa. In order to shoot the last sequence, Davis needed to secure a visa in only three days - an impossible job under normal (blog post) circumstances. Fortunately, Vice President Dan Quayle's administration was able to speed up the procedure and Davis was able to complete shooting on time. For his services, Quayle earned a "special thanks" credit at the conclusion of the movie.

Warwick Davis was starting to have second thoughts about making the movie, but because to Anniston's subsequent popularity on television, a lot of people rented it, and that ultimately led to a lengthy run of sequels. It is said that it was one of Warwick's most treasured possessions personally.
